C215 Christian Guémy: "faces reflect personalities"

I came across with C215 street artist and I'm amazed by the way he has been depicting men and women in many cities of the world.
Christian Guémy, a French 38 years old man, has chosen walls for canvases and at his site and at Flickr he not only keeps his work alive by photographies but show how talented he is in expressing emotions, circumstances and lives of different people of the world.
Take a look at his site and I'm sure you will be carried away. It took me half an hour and I will go back. :)
"I paint in the streets people really belonging to the streets: tramps, but also beggars, street orphans from the poorest countries. This is a stencil tradition by the way," he says. "The streets are just my favorite gallery, I been in love with graffiti since i was a child. Sure I did draw, paint free hand, with brushes, with cans, but stencils are the best way to quick place something beautiful anywhere in the streets, without any fucking authorization."

Street Art: Wooster Collective and Vinchen works

I just came across with the site The Wooster Collective.
woo ster (noun)
A street in the Soho section of New York City

col lec tive (noun)
Of, relating to, characteristic of, or made by a number of people acting as a group: a collective decision.

The Wooster Collective was founded in 2001. This site is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world.

From many amazing works today I did chose Vinchen that has a site for with great pictures of each work in wide screen making it possible to have a glimpse of the real work.
Take a look and experience it.

Nicholas Ganz the multimedia graffiti's man

I just visited Nicholas Ganz site from where I took these pictures. He is not only a graffiti man and can use canvas as a support - isn't it amazing? -or bottles as you can see at the picture.
The worse of his sins, or crimes, was taking photographs of street art and publishing them in a book "Graffiti World: Street Art from Five Continents".
Bad news for those who still think that graffiti is the result of a bunch of boys that has nothing better to do: the book was translated in many languages and became a blockbuster.
Worse: Nicholas, or Keinom his artistic name, published "Graffiti Women" when he noticed the lack of name of women in the street art scenery.
Quite an achievement since he also writes about the graffiti phenomenon around the world. Take a look at this page "What is Keinom?" where he writes a little about his story.
Take care Keinom!

1984 -the other side of the coin according to Shepard Faery

I just came across with this silkscreen on metal by Shepard Faery at this site and it caught my attention because it is a reverse of George Orwell's "Big Brother is Watching you".
Peace and Love are Watching Over You
(Click the image to enlarge)

Update: May, 01, 1011
I was aware that Shepard was being accused of plagiarism but I didn't pay attention.
I just found a great article here by Jason explaining everything. Not only plagiarism but appropriation of images that are part of the culture, those who are in public domain.
I will write a post about it. But visit the Justtheseeds by Jason if you want to be informed now.

BNE street art and stickers

BNE is a Brazilian street artist that has his logo "BNE" spread in many cities around the world. It's the same way propaganda works. How many times do you see the Coke Logo a day?
Why not promote yourself or a cause?
The "You are Beautiful" project also uses stickers but I don't receive any news from the group.
It is a good project and I hope they keep going.
A lie repeated a thousand times...
Let's spread and repeat the truth!

This is by another artist. oops! I put the same photo twice. I don't know why! :) Do you believe that ABC did not know who BNE is? The mayor?
Some people think that this is garbage and makes the city dirty. Visual pollution is everywhere but they look nice because symbols refer to goods people want to buy and are all recognizable.
We all have an acquaintance that spend US$ 3.000,00 or much higher in a bag with two or three letters and they are really paying for these letters. I think this is crazy.
If the letters do not refer to any of the known brands it can be the must amazing with great craftsmanship but this people will not buy because there is no status attached to, let's say, ABCD. This is strange for me and the most superfluous display of... I don't even know how to end this sentence.
